   "His mother and father told him that he was illegitimate, and that he was actually the son of Harry Houdini".

   With regard to the above sentence, the author should get his facts correct. No one told Gary Gilmore that he was illegitimate or the son of Harry Houdini. It was Gary Gilmore's FATHER, Frank Gilmore who may have been the illegitimate son of Houdini, not Gary. There was a bit of doubt about the true father of Gary's older brother, Frank Jr, but this was never proved either way. If the author had taken the trouble to read the two excellent books "The Executioner's Song" by Norman Mailer, and "Shot in the Heart" by Mikal Gilmore, he would have had the true facts before writing this article.
