That's interesting. So, will this case be followed closely in the US? The studios' seem to be sparing no expense in launching an appeal here.

It should be noted that in the US, we'd likely see the same result, since under the DMCA safe-harbor, an ISP is protected from liability (provided it complies with notice & takedown procedures, etc.)

I just read on SLASHDOT that the average budget for major, multi-platform video games is $18-28 million. How does this match up with the average cost of a Hollywood movie?

CYBERsitter is a private company and its potential award probably wouldn't have any effect on paying off the national debt, but the US government is always free to dismiss lawsuits in the interest of the sovereign. Reagan dismissed the suits (against Iran) of the hostages he freed; he did this to avoid international problems.

How would CYBERsitter's potential award have any affect on paying off our national debt? Isn't CYBERsitter a private company?

Thanks Jorge.

I imagine a large proportion of the $10m would have been devoted to traditional forms of marketing. I also suspect that pay-for-tweet would have been used.

Let me know if you have any luck discovering the mechanics of this.

Gene:

Great article. Do you have any estimate of what percentage of the $10M marketing campaign was the viral/internet part?

Hard to see spending that much creating twitter traffic. Did Paramount hire a big team of Twitterers? Or did the Tweets get farmed out to established Twitter accounts (pay-for-tweet)? Really curious how they do this.

This band is my favorite on the U St/DC Jazz scene. These cats have been playing Nema since the U St renaissance began. They play some of the best spots in the city, both large and intimate. This post brought back great memories. A talent like Quincy is not easy to identify, unless you know your way around the neighborhood. After listening to his music I often wonder if they ever play outside of DC, because they always seem to be playing in the District. A very intriguing local musical talent...
